Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare to conduct auger miner operations
   • Access, interpret and apply auger miner operations documentation, and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Conduct pre-start checks in accordance with safety requirements
   • Access, interpret and apply geological and survey data
   • Select and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
   • Identify, address and report potential hazards and risk
2. Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
3. Operate auger miner
   • Coordinate activities with others at the site prior to commencement of, and during, the work activity.
   • Carry out pre-start, start-up, park-up and shutdown procedures in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions
   • Conduct, control and monitor auger mining procedures within equipment limitations and capacity
   • Select required loading method and position equipment and haulage units to meet this requirement
   • Act or report on monitoring systems and alarms
   • Complete the work plan
4. Carry out operator maintenance
   • Prepare the machine for maintenance
   • Carry out routine and scheduled maintenance tasks
   • Clear worksite of tools, debris and defective components and restore to site and safety requirements
   • Process written maintenance records

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable legislation, documentation, policies and procedures for auger miner operations

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of auger miner operations including:

applying hand-eye coordination

applying diagnostic techniques

disposing of environmentally sensitive fluids and materials

works with others to undertake and complete the auger miner operations in a way that meets all of the required outcomes by:

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions, and convey work progress

demonstrates completion of conducting auger miner operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

conducting pre-start checks, start-up, park, shutdown and secure equipment procedures

conducting, controlling and monitoring auger mining procedures

selecting the required loading method and positioning of haulage units

mining to correct depths and horizons

maintaining alignment

responding to changes in seam dip

completing the work plan

driving, operating and relocating the auger miner

maintaining written maintenance and equipment records

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in conducting auger miner operations through:

accessing, interpreting and applying organisation and site requirements and procedures for conducting auger miner operations for:

monitoring wall stability

interpreting geological and survey data

applying environmental constraints in auger mining operations

identifying loading methods and haulage units

being prepared for events for fire/accident/emergency
